Would I go back to the way I was before? No. Would I have plastic surgery? Probably maybe…. I struggle with that one. I am extremely self-conscious but I worry about surgery and infections. Add to that I can’t afford it. So I have some time to think about it. I am ok with my stomach because I can cover it up but my knees and my arms are more difficult, particularly in the summer. I find that I look worse in short sleeves than in tank tops. Short sleeves bring the emphasis right to the area where I have the most droop. Shorts are the same, I buy them as long as I can. If I had arm and thigh surgery would I then feel I really needed my stomach done? Probably. My stomach isn’t bad, but I have a little hang and a bit of a muffin top- so if I only had a panni the muffin top would be accentuated. You can’t win for losing. The morale is don’t gain the weight to begin with. Oh, well time is on my side since I can’t afford it…

I did it. I ran a 10 K race and I did it in 56 min!! Don’t get too excited it was all downhill so my pace was faster and easier than it ever is for training. My sister and brother-in-law ran in it with me as well as over 13000 other people. It was exhilarating, I thought it would be crowded but it wasn’t. There was lots of space to run. Couple of key things I learned- 1. Pay close attention to the cup you grab at the water station- is it water or gatorade? otherwise you are accidently pouring gatorade over your head. Makes the rest of the run rather sticky. 2. I physically cannot drink out of a cup and run- water was spilling and splashing, I barely took in 1 ounce. 3. Be prepared for the jam after the finish line- people slow down and stop and talk and you can’t get out into the open. 4. Go to the bathroom at the porto potties before you run.! 5. Run with partners- having my sister and her husband along for the ride kept me motivated and pushed my pace. Anyway it was a great experience and I would do it again- except for having to get up at 4 am!

Fiber- Most of us don’t take in enough fiber- probably 15 g per day vs the recommended 25 g. So I made it a goal it increase my fiber intake. Scandanavian Bran crispbreads are a favorite of mine but I have to order them online and they aren’t easy to take on the road. One day I was walking through a store and a booth was giving away glasses of water with benefiber in them. I tried one. It was amazing you could not taste the fiber. Apparently you can cook with it, add it to juice etc. Great. I bought a canister. It worked wonderfully- I could mix it with anything, take it on the road- beautiful. The only problem was an unpleasant side effect- gas, not just a little alot. Now I don’t normally have gas- maybe because I am not taking in enough fiber? At first I didn’t thinki it was the benefiber, but then I added some to my children’s cereal. My son came home after school-laughing saying he had such bad gas all day that the girls were moving their desks away from him. Oh, no- I am the cause of my son’s alienation at school. Apparently this unpleasant side effect should disapate with time- so far I have not found that to be the case.
